Vintage 1970s/80s Scottish Tartan Teddy Bear Fairground Bingo Prize
40cm Hard-Stuffed Retro Carnival Prize
£15.00
This impressive 40cm tall vintage teddy bear is a genuine survivor of the classic UK traveling fairground and social club bingo circuits. Originally produced as a high-tier prize for carnival games and main-stage raffles, it has been perfectly preserved as pristine warehouse deadstock.
While the physical toy, materials, and rigid assembly are firmly rooted in the late 1970s and 1980s, the paper swing tag features an early European CE trade safety mark but no barcode. This places its distribution precisely in the 1990–1993 compliance window. When strict new UK safety laws hit at the turn of the decade, amusement wholesalers rapidly applied compliant CE labels to their existing 1980s warehouse stock.
True to vintage prize manufacturing, this 40cm bear is completely unjointed and heavily hard-stuffed to sit rigidly upright on a display shelf without slouching. It features classic hard-molded brown plastic safety eyes and a matching nose set into coarse, brown synthetic acrylic plush fur with a high-contrast white muzzle. The bear comes beautifully dressed in a thick, tartan kilt and matching hat, accented with iconic, stiff, scratchy retro nylon machine lace trim.
Condition
The bear is in excellent vintage condition, presenting immaculate display quality with bright, unfaded tartan fabric, crisp lace trims, and clean, dust-free fur from a smoke-free environment. It comes complete with its original historic paper Playmate Quality Soft Toys hangtag.
Please note: As this is a genuine vintage item from the late 20th century featuring older materials, it is sold as a collector's nostalgia piece rather than a modern toy for young children.
